Uhing® automatic winding width control AVS

The Uhing® AVS (automatic winding width control) prevents winding flaws in the particularly critical reversing area. Within a specified window, it detects where a dent or bulge starts, stores its position and corrects the flaw during the next strokes. This results in an optimum pattern on the spool and ensures smooth unwinding later on. No corrections are made between the reversal points. Uhing® AVS is suited for spools with straight or conical flanges.

The Uhing® AVS can be retrofitted and integrated in existing plants with the most diversified traversing systems (by the customer or by Uhing®  - not included in the standard scope).

Traversing system automatically ensures a cylindrical winding

To obtain a cylindrical winding in the particularly critical reversing area, Uhing has developed the AVS Traversing Width Controller that does not require any interference-prone optical sensors.

The traversing system used here is the well-known Uhing rolling ring drive featuring pneumatically controlled reversing triggered by a microcontroller. As soon as the AVS detects a dent or bulge in the reversal area, it stores the traversing system position and the type of flaw. In the next traversing strokes, the controller will correct this flaw by adapting the traversing width. The result is an optimally wound cylindrical coil that can be further processed without problems.....[read more]

The Automatic Winding Width Control reduces traversing issues with deformed metal spools. Warped metal spools require frequent adjustment of the traversing width if such spools are to be reused. This negatively affects the cost efficiency of the production process and the staff productivity. The Automatic Winding Width Control developed by Joachim Uhing KG GmbH & Co. prevents the formation of undesired bulges and dents of wires wound in the flange area of spools and relieves the staff from unproductive monitoring tasks....[read more]
