A reason to celebrate: 75 years of Uhing

It is not known whether company founder Joachim Uhing dreamed that his company would rise to such heights. The fact is that when the company was founded in 1943, the enterprising engineer had already specialised in market niches that were to form the basis for ever new inventions and long-lasting success. For 75 years, the innovations of Joachim Uhing GmbH & Co. KG have been supporting manufacturers of machines and systems worldwide.

The starting point of the innovation company was the engineering office in Holtenauer Straße in Kiel, which was founded by Joachim Uhing, a native of Katowice, on 23 March 1943. Inspired by the close dialogue with knitting machine manufacturers, he developed a device that made it possible to automate the previously manual back and forth movement of the knitting carriage. He placed a housing with rolling rings on a smooth, non-threaded round shaft, which he allowed to roll on the shaft at a variable pitch angle.

This invention was to help him achieve an international breakthrough: The Rolling Ring Drive was invented. Since then, it has been used in a constantly growing number of different industrial applications. It is mainly used for winding wire, cable and strip-shaped material onto spools. Recently, it has even been installed in drip irrigation systems to support the laying and recovery of hoses and flexible pipes in irrigation systems.
