History

Uhing makes history

The history of the Uhing company is inextricably linked with one name: Joachim Uhing - founder, innovator and inventor of the Rolling Ring Drive. Over the years, the product range has been continuously expanded and supplemented by numerous innovations. Significant developments and milestones have made Uhing an internationally recognised company. But this story is far from over - we are continuing it today with innovative strength and vision.

The foundation

It all began in 1943: Joachim Uhing founded his engineering office, where he developed miniature cameras, wall clocks and finally yarn guides for industrial knitting machines. These brought him international recognition early on and also formed the basis for a close partnership with knitting machine manufacturers all over the world that still exists today.

The invention of the Rolling Ring Drive

Joachim Uhing's philosophy: to occupy specific market niches with intelligent in-house developments. in 1952, he achieved the decisive breakthrough - with the invention of the Rolling Ring Drive. This mechanical solution converts the constant rotary motion of a smooth shaft into a continuous back and forth motion. The name Uhing thus became synonymous with this unique technology worldwide.

First foreign representation in the USA

In the 1950s and 1960s, the company experienced continuous growth, so it was only logical to gain a sales partner in the USA. Due to the high export share of Uhing products - today it is around 60 % - a global network of representatives is established early on. Today, this network comprises more than 45 locations worldwide.

Moving into Mielkendorf

As the company grows, so does the need for space - and so Uhing moves into a spacious company building in Mielkendorf in 1972. This remains the company headquarters for over 44 years and characterises an important phase in the company's history.

Linear Drive Nut market launch

In 1977, another product is added to Uhing's portfolio: the Linear Drive Nut - a non-positive screw drive without an internal reversal mechanism. Thanks to its zero backlash, it quickly developed into an interesting drive element, especially for manufacturers of measuring machines.

1978

Introduction of the Kinemax

With the Kinemax, Uhing launched a compact, lightweight version of the Rolling Ring Drive in 1978. Specially developed for applications with lower forces, it impresses with a plastic housing, low weight and attractive acquisition costs - with the same functionality as the classic Rolling Ring Drive. The Kinemax is still part of the Uhing product portfolio today.

Market launch of the Z-Drive timing belt drive

Just six years later, Uhing adds another drive to its range: the Z-Drive timing belt drive. This positive linear drive is characterised by high traverse speeds and accelerations and further expands the range of applications for Uhing drive technology.

1992
Quick-release clamping systems on shafts: different clamping heads hold a transparent film roll.

Market launch of the easylock® quick-release system

In 1992, the Uhing-easylock quick-clamping system marked the start of a comprehensive programme of tool-free clamping and fastening elements for smooth shafts. This system minimises reversal times and develops into a success within a very short time.

1996

Wolfgang Weber joins the management board

in 1996, an important personality takes over the management of the company: Wolfgang Weber. He steered the company's fortunes until 2025 and led it into a successful future.

2002

Market launch clamping element U-Clip

In 2002, the company added the Uhing U-Clip clamping element to its Easylock quick-clamping system as a simple and cost-effective variant. Another example of the company's consistent focus on the needs of its customers.

Introduction of the use of 3D CAD models

In order to remain innovative, Uhing introduced the use of 3D CAD models in 2009 - a pioneering technology in computer-aided design and production to this day.

2012

Market launch of Uhing Motion Drive

With the Uhing Motion Drive, the company is launching a consistent further development of the classic Rolling Ring Drive on the market. Launched in 2012, the system combines proven mechanics with modern sensors and intelligent control technology. All components are precisely harmonised with each other.

Move to the new company building in Flintbek

Due to constantly increasing demands on production and occupational safety, another relocation is planned for 2017. In April, Uhing moves into a new company building in Flintbek, which was planned and built specifically for the company's needs - larger, more modern and with optimal conditions for future expansions and technological developments in production.

The 5-axis CNC machine

"Automated into the future" has been the motto since 2023 with the use of a 5-axis CNC machine. With its help, components can be manufactured with little to no burrs - and the entire production process is significantly accelerated.
